About this role

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts, responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care. Demonstrates initiative, knowledge and clinical skills in caring for the patient with complex needs. Assumes full responsibility for assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of care for specific patient assignments, sets priorities for patients with varying acuity. Maintains continuity through clear and concise communication. Documents patient care in a manner that is clear, complete, concise and compliant with standards.

Develops comprehensive plans for education, discharge and care based on assessments, team input and records. Administers medication safely, performs procedures efficiently and uses equipment properly. Collaborates with patients, families, colleagues and other disciplines professionally.

Participates in unit-based and organizational quality improvement programs, upholds A.N.A. code of ethics. Provides safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, utilizes universal precautions. Joins high-performing teams at Mass General Brigham advancing patient care, research and community service.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse licensed in Massachusetts
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing for newly licensed nurses
  • Demonstrates initiative, knowledge and clinical skills in caring for patients with complex needs
  • Ability to effectively manage patients by assuming full responsibility for assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation
  • Appropriate knowledge of growth and development of adult and geriatric patients
  • Awareness of potential risks of infection and modes of transmission
  • Utilizes universal precautions in nursing practice
  • Directly responsible to designated nurse manager or supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate a plan of care for specific patient assignment
  • Set priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity
  • Document patient care clearly, completely and in compliance with nursing documentation standards
  • Develop comprehensive educational plan for patient and family utilizing appropriate resources
  • Develop comprehensive discharge plan utilizing appropriate resources and referrals
  • Administer medication safely according to established policies and procedures
  • Perform nursing procedures safely and efficiently
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and interact professionally with patients, families and colleagues
