About this role

Regarded as clinical expert and role model in application of the nursing process and evidence-based practice to manage the complex care needs of specific patient populations. Serves as a resource person to physicians, nurses, patients, and family members. Applies principles of adult learning to plan and conduct educational sessions to promote staff development, student competence, and positive patient/family outcomes.

Demonstrates proficiency in teaching and precepting skills while coordinating unit-based clinical orientation program for new staff, students, and preceptors. Assists with annual educational needs assessment and development of competency checklists. Mentors new and existing staff by sharing knowledge, skills, and departmental processes.

Role models expert communication skills and time management to colleagues through example. Ensures compliance and adherence with unit policies and procedures. Assumes staff level leadership and resource role with the interdisciplinary team while contributing to resource evaluation and cost containment.

Integrates patient/family education activities into unit-based staff development programs under direction of CNS and Unit Director. Collaborates to develop standardized teaching materials incorporating cultural beliefs and values. Facilitates development of unit preceptors including effective delegation and interpersonal skills.

Works within a supportive environment at Emory Healthcare with ongoing mentorship, development, and leadership programs. Assists CNS and Unit Director in meeting education and training needs. Promotes foresight on nursing care impact based on intuition and experience as recognized expert clinician.

Requirements

  • Clinical expert and role model in nursing process and evidence-based practice for complex cardiovascular ICU patient populations
  • Proficiency in teaching and precepting skills
  • Expertise in adult learning principles for staff and student development
  • Recognized as expert clinician and leader within specialty
  • Foresight regarding impact of nursing care on patient outcomes based on intuition and experience
  • Ability to facilitate development of preceptors including delegation and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of operational forms revision and unit compliance
  • Skill in modeling therapeutic relationships with patients and families
