About this role

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assists with patients’ activities of daily living and plan of care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Looking for individuals willing and experienced in stocking, clerical/administrative tasks, and cleaning NICU specific equipment. Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients, and families.

Supports activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting, mobility, and transport. Performs technical duties directed by RN such as phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, and Foley catheter care. Identifies and communicates changes in patient status to RN while demonstrating standard precautions.

Cooper University’s 35-bed level 3 NICU features smaller pods for up to 4 infants and a transitional nursery for 12. Cares for infants from 23 weeks gestation needing surgical interventions, respiratory support, and high frequency ventilation. Multidisciplinary team includes RNs, physicians, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Respiratory Therapists, and Unit secretaries.

Maintains high standards of professional ethics and participates in patient satisfaction initiatives. Assists in orientation of new hires and completes annual unit-specific competencies. Opportunities for career growth through professional development at Cooper University Health Care.

Requirements

  • High School/GED required
  • Successful completion of an unlicensed health care provider/technician program
  • Completed at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited Nursing Program
  • 1 year or more patient care experience in a similar role
  • 0-2 years' experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supports activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, mobility and transport
  • Performs technical duties as directed by RN such as phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care
  • Identifies and communicates changes in patient’s status to RN and responds appropriately
  • Reinforces education of patient and family regarding individual care needs and safety issues
  • Assists in admission, transfers and discharges of patients to and from the unit
  • Stocks, performs clerical/administrative duties, and cleans NICU specific equipment
  • Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives and performance improvement activities
