About this role

Mass General Brigham is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. As a not-for-profit organization, we support patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care to our most vulnerable patients.

In this role, you will be responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care. You will demonstrate initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills in caring for patients with complex needs, including neonates requiring intensive monitoring and intervention.

You will organize patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a plan of care for a specific patient assignment, setting priorities for patients with varying acuity. Collaboration with other disciplines and clear communication with patients, families, and colleagues are essential to maintaining continuity and delivering high-quality care.

Requirements

  • Professional nurse registered in Massachusetts.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required for newly licensed nurses.
  • Demonstrates initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills in caring for the patient with complex needs.
  • Ability to effectively manage patients by assuming full responsibility for assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of growth and development of the neonate.
  • Demonstrates awareness of potential/actual risks of infection and modes of transmission.
  • Utilizes universal precautions in nursing practice.
  • Upholds the A.N.A. code of ethics and acts as a role model to other staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for a specific patient assignment in the NICU.
  • Set priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity.
  • Maintain continuity through clear and concise verbal and written communication.
  • Document patient care in a manner that is clear, complete, concise, and in compliance with nursing documentation standards.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan of care based on data from initial assessment of patient and family, information from other health care team members, and previous medical records.
  • Develop a comprehensive educational plan for the patient and family, utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Develop a comprehensive discharge plan utilizing appropriate resources and referrals including community resources.
  • Administer medication safely according to established policies and procedures and perform nursing procedures safely and efficiently.
