About this role
The Clinical Leader oversees care of NICU patients and drives excellence in patient safety and quality outcomes. Accountable for daily operations, oversight of staffing and scheduling, and cross-site integration and capacity management. Provides nursing and inter-professional leadership, mentorship, and education at the bedside.
Coordinates, manages, organizes, and prioritizes day-to-day patient care activities, staffing, and resource utilization for the NICU. Supports scheduling of staff according to RNAC or other guidelines. Leads management of capacity and resources across units and sites on a daily basis.
Serves as a direct care provider for complex situations and monitors patients’ progress against plan of care until discharge. Leads team meetings, daily huddles, and rounds with a focus on quality and safe patient care. Role models teamwork, effective communication, critical thinking, and knowledge of clinical best practices.
Supports staff development, education, quality, and evidence-based practice through a strong leadership team. Participates in hiring, orientation, and performance evaluation of nursing staff and interprofessional team members. Engages front-line staff on committees, councils, and working groups in a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto.
Requirements
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with ONA
- Clinical expertise in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Demonstrated nursing leadership and mentorship abilities
- Knowledge of clinical best practices and patient safety standards
- Experience in staffing, scheduling, and resource management in NICU
- Proficiency in interprofessional team collaboration and communication
- Ability to manage incident reports and provide close loop feedback
- Skills in performance evaluation and staff accountability
Responsibilities

- Review and follow-up including closing Incident Reports up to level 3
