About this role
This role is responsible for providing professional nursing care to SIH patients, with a focus on oncology infusion services. Nurses assess patients to determine their mental, physical, and spiritual needs while establishing a compassionate environment for emotional and psychological support.
Day-to-day duties include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individual care plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Nurses provide health teaching and counseling to promote optimal health, and use clinical judgment to recognize, act upon, and report changes in patient condition.
Nurses will work in infusion centers such as the CTC-Infusion Center or SJ-Infusion, requiring completion of ONS Fundamentals within the first six months and a Chemotherapy Certificate Course within one year. The environment emphasizes patient safety, quality of care, and advocacy through collaboration with other health service professionals.
Opportunities for growth include earning and renewing ONS chemotherapy certification every two years. Nurses may also float to other SIH nursing units within their competency level, broadening their clinical experience across the organization.
Requirements
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse license
- Current CPR/BLS Card
- ONS Fundamentals within first 6 months (for infusion center roles)
- ONS Chemotherapy Certificate Course within 1 year (renewed every 2 years)
- Associate, Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s in Nursing
Responsibilities
- Assess patients to determine mental, physical, and spiritual needs

- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individual plan of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Provide health teaching and counseling to promote, attain, and maintain the optimum health level of patients
- Demonstrate ability to use clinical judgment in conjunction with critical thinking to recognize, act upon, and report changes in patient condition
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in the patient medical record
- Serve as an advocate for the patient by communicating and collaborating with other health service professionals
- Float to other SIH nursing units within competency level
