Johns Hopkins Intrastaff provides temporary support to Johns Hopkins locations as the internal staffing agency. Neonatal Nurse Practitioners deliver comprehensive, age-appropriate care to patients in the NICU.

The NP collaborates within multidisciplinary teams, educating patients and intervening in acute or chronic illness. They practice within scope defined by education, certification, and institutional guidelines. Affiliate staff privileges are granted by the Johns Hopkins Medical Board.

Daily caseload involves 5-10 patients with rotating 12-hour day and night shifts from 7am-7:30pm or 7pm-7:30am. NPs facilitate evidence-based care using nursing processes, policies, and protocols for inpatients, outpatients, and families. They manage team members to promote quality, safety, and excellence.

Work collaboratively to lead multidisciplinary initiatives supporting program quality and safety. Participate in quality improvement, research, and specialty initiatives directed by leadership. Foster a clinical environment of service excellence within the designated ICU unit.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and/or DNP from an accredited school of nursing
  • Completion of an accredited NP program in neonatal specialty
  • Current Registered Nurse and NP licensure in the state of Maryland
  • Current certification as Neonatal NP by the State of Maryland
  • Clinical skills in the area of neonatal certification
  • Advanced research knowledge, including interpretation, utilization, and conduct
  • Analytical ability to diagnose patients and develop plans for acute and chronic health management
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with interdisciplinary health care team

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive and age-appropriate care to well and/or ill patients in the NICU
  • Educate patients and intervene in acute or chronic illness
  • Facilitate and coordinate programs providing evidence-based care based on nursing process, policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Provide direction and management to other team members to promote quality, safety, and excellence in care
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care team and provide leadership for program initiatives
  • Participate in promoting and identifying quality improvement initiatives in clinical, financial, operational areas
  • Initiate and participate in research activities relevant to neonatal specialty
  • Foster a clinical environment of service excellence
