About this role

Our innovative program assists graduate nurses transition from student to professional nurse through a network of support. Designed for graduates interested in pediatric, adult cardiac, or obstetric nursing, it introduces the realities of clinical practice with group problem-solving, critical thinking exercises, and hands-on clinical applications.

As a resident, you will perform and document comprehensive patient assessments, analyze situations, and detect changes in patient status. You will involve patients and families in the plan of care, implement high-quality care, and evaluate responses to ensure progress toward desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing by August 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas required by September 30, 2026.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required by September 30, 2026.
  • A personal mission statement of 500 words or less explaining why you want to work at Texas Children’s and how your mission aligns with the organization's mission and values.
  • One letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor that addresses clinical judgment, ability to apply nursing theory to practice, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document comprehensive patient/family assessments including bio-physical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner.
  • Analyze situations, anticipate potential problems, and detect changes in patient status.
  • Involve patient and family in the patient's plan of care.
  • Implement high-quality, cost-effective patient care in conjunction with the patient/family.
  • Evaluate and document patient response to care and recognize progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Educate patient and family by assessing learning needs, capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and excellent customer service skills.
