About this role
Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, nursing supervisor, and/or charge nurse, the registered nurse plans, directs, assesses, and provides nursing care according to hospital and department policies. Important dimensions include quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, and broad nursing knowledge. The registered nurse orients new staff, precepts students, and assumes relief charge nurse duty as assigned.
The RN competently evaluates, plans, and implements appropriate nursing care for patients, provides prescribed medication and treatment, assists physicians, and monitors patient conditions while notifying physicians when appropriate. In the Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery (IICN), staff RNs manage well-baby nursery, level 1 and 2 care, attend deliveries, initiate resuscitation as needed, and stabilize for transfer to tertiary care. RNs float to Family Birth Center (FBC) for postpartum maternal and infant care.

RNs must pass orientation and initial competency assessments prior to independent patient assignments. They complete and pass all annual competencies to maintain skills. Experienced nurses contribute to team development through precepting and charge duties.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of acute care hospital experience in a level II or higher level nursery or successful completion of a NICU training program
- Knowledge of well newborn care, newborn delivery admission, resuscitation, and maternal postpartum care
- State of California RN license required
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS and NRP Advanced Provider required
- STABLE required for anyone hired after April 1, 2025; current staff by September 1, 2026
- Pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment
- Complete and pass all annual competencies
- PALS and ENPC preferred
Responsibilities
